Abstract:
PURPOSE:To decrease unequal displays and to improve image quality by reducing only the pressure between a pair of substrates and adhering the substrates at the time of adhering the substrates by sealing materials. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 3, 4 are formed in desired patterns on the respective opposite surfaces of a pair of the glass substrates 1, 2 and an orienting agent, for example a polyimide resin, is applied thereon to form oriented films 5, 6. These films are then subjected to a rubbing treatment. The sealing materials 7, 8 are applied and printed on the peripheral part of the one glass substrate 1 in such a manner that a liquid crystal injection port is formed; thereafter, spacers 9 consisting of particles of a system having a thermosetting resin are sprayed. Only the pressure between the two glass substrates 1 and 2 is then reduced by using a vacuum pump 15 at the time of adhering the substrates 1, 2 by the sealing materials 7, 8. The substrates are pressurized in an arrow-marked vertical direction and are adhered. The adhered substrates are cured by the sealing materials 7, 8. After a liquid crystal 10 is injected from the liquid crystal injection port, the liquid crystal injection port is sealed. Further, a polarizing plate 12 is provided on the outside surface of the one glass substrate 1 and a phase plate 11 and a polarizing plate 13 are provided on the outside surface of the other glass substrate 2.
