PURPOSE: To inexpensively obtain a manganese sulfate soln. with convenient operation by bringing a raw slurry contg. manganese oxide ore into contact with a gas having a specified content of SO2 in a multistage bubble tower and separating the obtained recovered slurry into solid and liq.
CONSTITUTION: A manganese oxide ore, water, a water-soluble manganese. compd. (e.g. MnSO4), as required, sulfuric acid, etc., are supplied into a storage tank 1 to prepare a raw slurry. The slurry is supplied into the upper part of a multistage bubble tower 2 from the tank 1, and allowed to flow down in the tower 2. A gas contg. 1-30vol.% SO2 is simultaneously fed into the bottom of the tower 2, and brought into contact with the slurry in the lower 2 to allow the MnO2 in the slurry to react with the SO2 in the gas to form MnSO4. The recovered slurry contg. MnSO4 is then drawn off from the bottom of the tower 2, and separated by a solid-liq. separator 3 into solid and liq. to remove insoluble impurities. Consequently, a manganese sulfate soln. is obtained.
