PURPOSE: To produce metallic powder which has irregular shapes and are easily moldable by injecting liquid having a specific temp. and pressure to flowing down molten metal flow.
CONSTITUTION: The molten steel 14 in a molten metal reservoir 13 is run downward from the bottom as the molten steel flow 15. The hot water heated in a hot water tank 1 is supplied to a hot water pipe 5 to a grinding nozzle 9 and is injected to the molten steel flow 15 to grind and cool the molten steel flow 15. The ground steel is stored as iron powder 16 in a storage tank 17. The hot water which is heated to the saturation temp. with respect to the pressure of a place for injection of the hot water or above and is pressurized to the pressure higher than the saturation vapor pressure with respect to the elevated temp. is used for the hot water to be injected to the molten steel flow 15. The resultant iron powder has not spherical but irregular shapes and has therefore good moldability. The size of the iron powder obtd. by controlling the temp. and pressure of the hot water is easily controllable.
