To provide a method for producing, by spray drying, an acrylic polymer powder which is suitable as a modifier for various plastic resins (e.g. a vinyl chloride resin), improves the redispersibility in melt kneading, and decreases the number of fish eyes occurring.

In a method for recovering a powder by spray drying an emulsion polymerization latex mainly comprising an acrylic polymer, superheated steam is used as a heating gas for drying; thus, the fusion of the surface of an acrylic resin composition powder is decreased and a powder wherein particles flocculate with each other with a suitable force is mode obtainable. As a result, the redispersibility in melt kneading is improved and the number of fish eyes occurring can be decreased.
