To provide a method for producing β-hydoxyhydroperoxides more industrially advantageously by oxidizing an internally disubstituted olefins with hydrogen peroxide.
This method for producing the β-hydoxyhydroperoxides is characterized by reacting the internally disubstituted olefins with hydrogen peroxide in an organic solvent in the presence of a metal oxide catalyst obtained by reacting at least 1 kind of a metal selected from a group consisting of tungsten metal, molybdenum metal, a tungsten compound consisting of the tungsten with an element of the IIIb group, the IVb group, the Vb group or the VIb group excluding oxygen, and a molybdenum compound consisting of the molybdenum with an element of the IIIb group, the IVb group, the Vb group or the VIb group excluding the oxygen, with hydrogen peroxide.
