Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a modified protein, capable of maintaining enzymic activities high even in a state of an aqueous solution, stably preservable and useful as a fouling removing agent, etc., for contact lenses by reacting a specific phosphorylcholine group-containing compound with a protein.
SOLUTION: A phosphorylcholine group-containing compound represented by formula I [R1 is a functional group bondable to a functional group in a protein; X1 is a bivalent organic residue without containing phosphorylcholine; X is an organic residue of a compound containing the phosphorylcholine group such as 2-methacryloyloxyethylphosphorylcholine; (a) is O or 1] is reacted with a protein such as a hydrolase (e.g. a protease) to thereby provide the objective modified protein, represented by formula II [Pro is a residue of the protein; R is a bivalent organic residue derived from the functional group bondable to the functional group in the protein; (b) is a positive number of ≥1] and useful as an active component, etc., of a fouling removing agent for contact lenses.
