PURPOSE: To obtain a compd. of high purity useful as a raw material for producing a plant protectioning agent in a high yield in an economically advantageous manner without generating environmental pollution by reacting orthoacetic ester and cyanamide in the presence of an acidic catalyst in an alcoholic solvent.
CONSTITUTION: An orthoacetic ester and a cyanamide are reacted in the presence of an acidic catalyst in an alcoholic solvent such as methanol at 40-140°C, pref., 60-90°C to obtain an objective compd. As the catalyst, 10-6-10-1 mol of a proton is added to the reaction mixture per one mol of orthoacetic ester or, as a liberated compd., an inorg. mineral acid (e.g.; sulfuric acid) and an org. acid (e.g.; acetic acid) are used. The use amt. of the catalyst is 1% or less, pref., 0.1-0.5% by wt. of the orthoacetic ester. At least 1 mol of the orthoacetic ester is used per 1 mol of the cuanamide to perform reaction.
