Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce high-quality N-methyl-N'-nitroguanidine usable as an intermediate for a biologically active compound at a low reaction temperature without using an auxiliary in high yield.
SOLUTION: Nitroguanidine of formula I is reacted with an aqueous solution of methylamine to produce N-methyl-N'-nitroguanidine of formula II. The reaction is carried out by using 1-3mol, preferably 1-2mol of methylamine based on 1mol of the compound of formula I. The reaction temperature can be changed in a relatively wide range, generally 10-30°C and preferably a room temperature. In the reaction, water is used as a diluent. For example, an organic solvent/water base using an organic solvent such as a ketone or an alcohol miscible with water can be used. The compound of formula II can be simply separated without carrying out a purification process.
