Abstract:

PURPOSE: To economically obtain in an industrially advantageous way by hydrogenating an N-t-butyl-2-pyrazinecarboxamide compound using, as a catalyst, an inexpensive Raney nickel or Raney cobalt.
CONSTITUTION: Using, as a catalyst, Raney nickel or Raney cobalt, an N-t- butyl-2-pyrazinecarboxamide compound of formula I (R1 and R2 are each H or an alkyl; But denotes tertiary butyl) is hydrogenated (pref. at 70-130°C) to obtain an N-t-butyl-2-piperazinecarboxamide compound of formula II. The compound of the formula I can be prepared by reaction of a cyanopyrazine of formula III with t-butyl alcohol in the presence of sulfuric acid. The compound of the formula II is useful as an intermediate for medicines. By this method, the compound of the formula II can be produced under low pressures easy to handle industrially, in a short reaction time and in high yield.
