Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a method for efficiently producing naphthalenecarboxylic acid in simple steps using a simple apparatus while controlling formation of by-products by using alkylnaphthalenes, etc., as a raw material.
CONSTITUTION: Alkylnaphthalenes, e.g. a mono- or dialkylnaphthalene, acenaphthene or their oxidation intermediates are subjected to oxidative reaction with molecular oxygen in the presence of a catalyst containing cobalt and manganese in a solvent and a bromine-containing co-catalyst is then added to the reaction system to further perform the oxidative reaction. Thereby, the objective naphthalenecarboxylic acid is obtained.
