PURPOSE: To easily produce a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound useful as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, etc., from a nitrobenzene derivative under mild reaction condition in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula II, e.g. azacycloheptano[2,1- b]-4(3H)-quinazolinone can be produced by reacting a compound of formula I [X1 to X4 are H, halogen, OH, formyl, acyl, carboxyl, amino, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkylsulfinyl, alkylsulfonyl, alkyl, alkenyl, phenyl, phenoxy, etc., or adjacent two groups together form a 5 or 6-membered ring consisting of C, O and N; Y1 and Y2 are O, S, NR1 or CR2R3 (R1 to R3 are H, NH2, alkylamino, alkyl, phenyl, etc.); Z is H, alkylamino, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkyl, phenyl, etc.] with carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst containing the group VII and/or group VIII element of the periodic table to effect the cyclization of the starting compound.
