PURPOSE: To obtain the title substance in good yield by reacting (3- halogenopropyl)3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoate and homopiperadine in the presence of an alkali metal iodide catalyst and a base and heating the reaction product in an org. solvent.
CONSTITUTION: (3-halogenopropyl) 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoate and homopiperadine are reacted in the presence of a catalyst such as KI, an org. or inorg. base (e.g.; triethylamine) and, if necessary, a water binder (e.g.; an alkali metal salt) and the reaction product is heated in an org. solvent (e.g.; toluene, DMF) and water is removed if generated. The reaction mixture is conc. to be extracted with acidic water and the extract is made alkaline to filter off a precipitated crude crystal to recrystallize the same to obtain the title substance of high purity. The title substance is useful for a vasodilator, an arteriosclerosis agent and an anti-coagulant.
