Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:A norephedrine derivative expressed by the formula (R0 and R1 represent 2-3C alkyl groups having straight or branched chain; such alkyl groups may be cyclized or either of R0 and R1 may be styrene, phenolic or epoxy resin) or enantiomers thereof.
EXAMPLE: (1S,2R)-(-)-2-[N,N-Di (1-butyl)amino]-1-phenylpropan-1-ol.
USE: Useful as a medicine, perfume and a catalyst for synthesizing optically active secondary alcohols which are raw materials used for asymmetric synthesis. The above-mentioned alcohols are obtained by asymmetric addition of a dialkylzinc to an aliphatic aldehyde in the presence of the catalyst.
PREPARATION: A norephedrine derivative is reacted with an alkyl iodide in the presence of a base, such as sodium carbonate.
