Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain such an oil adsorbent that has excellent oil absorptivity and can be easily recovered by rapidly heating an oxygen-treated graphite produced by acid treatment of graphite, molding the obtd. expanded graphite by the compression to the specified density into a sheet form and then treating the plate with a binder.

CONSTITUTION: An expanded graphite usually having 0.004-0.006g/cc density is obtd. by rapidly heating an oxygen-treated graphite produced by the acid treatment of graphite. This expanded graphite is compressed up to 0.01-0.03g/cc density and simultaneously formed into a desired form. Then the graphite is treated with a binder (e.g. vinyl chloride resin). Thereby, the obtd. oil adsorbent has excellent oil absorptivity and can be recovered easily.
