PURPOSE: To provide a simple derivation method of an oligosaccharide useful as a substrate for an α-amylase.
CONSTITUTION: The direct silylation reaction of the terminal non-reduced glucose unit of the oligosaccharide which is an oligosaccharide having at least three repeating glucose units and having aglycone units, such as nitrophenyl, 2- chloro-4-nitrophenyl, 4-methylumbeliferone, luciferin and chromogenic phenols at its reduced terminal is executed by (a) forming a soln. of the oligosaccharide in a solvent; (b) bringing the oligosaccharide into reaction with a silylating protective agent in the presence of a base; and (c) recovering a monosilylated oligosaccharide deriv. from the reaction mixture. The oligosaccharide deriv. is efficiently produced by the low-cost production process simpler than the conventional processes.
