Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide optical fiber suitable for its use with high-speed spinning together in relation to a method for producing the optical fiber for communication in which a coating layer of carbon is formed on the surface of the optical fiber.

CONSTITUTION: Optical fiber 18 controlled to a prescribed temperature just after its spinning is passed through an atmosphere of a raw material gas 14 to be a coating layer of carbon and the raw material gas is then decomposed on the surface of the optical fiber 18 utilizing the heat thereof. The coating layer of the carbon is applied and formed on the surface of the optical fiber while absorbing the heat according to chemical reaction. The resultant fiber is subsequently coated with a synthetic resin 19 to afford the objective optical fiber for communication.
