Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enable executing of the conversion of the higher harmonic waves emitted from the optical wavelength conversion element with high efficiency by restoring the nonlinearity of an optical waveguide to about the same nonlinearity as the nonlinearity of a substrate. CONSTITUTION:A mask patterns consisting of Ta6 is formed on an LiTaO3 substrate 1 and thereafter, a high-refractive index layer 5 is formed by a proton exchange method. The high-refractive index layer 5 is heat treated for 10 seconds at 460 deg.C by an IR heater to restore the crystallinity. The optical waveguide 2 having the high nonlinearity and good confinement is thus produced.
