Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound useful for a synthetic intermediate of pharmaceutical and synthesis of an optically active ligand, etc.
SOLUTION: The objective compound of formula II is produced by carrying out the reaction of 2-substituted cyclohexanone (A) of formula I [R1 is a 1-4C alkyl or (protected) OH] with hydrogen in the presence of an asymmetric hydrogenation catalyst (B) comprising (i) a transition metal compound such as a group VIII transition metal complex of the formula M1XmLn (M1 is Ru, Rh, Ir or Pt; X is H, a halogen or carboxyl, etc.; L is an optically active phosphine ligand; m and n are each an integer), (ii) a basic compound (quaternary ammonium salt) of the formula M2Y [M2 is an alkali (alkaline earth) metal; Y is OH, an alkoxy or a mercapto] and (iii) a nitrogen compound such as an amine.
