Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain stereoselectively the title compound useful as an intermedi ate for synthesizing the therapeutic agents for stenocardia by reaction between a trans-modification of cinnamic ester and an o-aminothiophenol under specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: A reaction is made between (A) a compound of formula I (R1 is H, lower alkyl, etc.; R2 is lower alkyl, etc.; R3 is lower alkyl) and (B) a compound of formula II (R4 is H, lower alkyl or halogen) in the presence of a lithium o-aminothiophenoxide followed by, if needed, treating the product with a Lewis acid, thus obtaining the objective threo-modification of phenylthiopropionic ester of formula III (R2 is H< lower alkyl, etc.).
