Abstract:

A two step process is described for the production of phtalic anhydride comprising in the first step the liquid phase oxidation of o-xylene in the presence of cobalt catalysts soluble in o-xilene and in the second step the oxidation of the orthotoluic acid thus formed and separated in vapor phase with vanadium catalysts.
