PURPOSE: To produce and recover a physiologically active substance, by filling a mixed system of a cell producing the physiologically active substance and a liquid culture medium in a cultivation vessel, revolving the vessel around the horizontal axis, and dispersing and cultivating the cell in the liquid culture medium.
CONSTITUTION: A mixed system consisting of dispersed particles having adhered adhesion dependent cell producing a physiologically active substance, e.g. interferon, or suspension multiplying cell 2 producing the physiologically active substance, e.g. human normal diploid cell, and a liquid culture medium 3 is put into a cultivation vessel 1 to fill the vessel 1. The cultivation vessel 1 is then rotated to revolve around the horizontal axis and rotate the mixed system steadily with the cultivation vessel 1. Thus, the productive cell 2 is dispersed in the liquid culture medium 3 and cultivated to produce and recover the physiologically active substance. Therefore, the productive cell 2 can be well dispersed and made to live and sustain actively in the stable state without applying shearing force to the mixed system.
