PURPOSE: To obtain polyethylene of large melt tension with large swell ratio in the molding process, by using a Ziegler-type catalyst consisting of a reaction product from metal enolate, organomagnesium compound, oxygen-contg. organotitanium compound, etc. and an organoaluminum compound.
CONSTITUTION: The objective polyetylene can be obtained by polymerization of ethylene or between ethylene and an α-olefin in the presence of a Ziegler-type catalyst consisting of (A) a reaction product from (i) a metal enolate [e.g., iron (II) acetyl acetonate, cobalt dipivaloyl methanate], (ii) an organomagnesium compound (e.g., diethylmagnesium), (iii) an oxygen-contg. organotitanium compound (e.g., titanium tetraethoxide), (iv) a halogenated organoaluminum compound (e.g., ethylaluminum dichloride) and (v) a silicon compound selected from polysiloxanes and silanes and (B) an organoaluminum compound.
