Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a polymer of an α,ω-unsatd. conjugated compd. improved in purity and chemical and mechanical stability in an improved yield by reacting a specific precursor monomer with a base in a solvent.
SOLUTION: One equivalent of a precursor monomer of formula I [wherein P is-SR3, -SO-R3, -COOR3, -NO2, -CN, -CF3, or R3; L is -Cl, -Br,-I,-0-tosylate, -0-mesylate, -0-triflate, -(NR33)+. or -(NR3R4)+: R1 and R2 are each H, R3. or P; R3 and R4 are each -R3, -OR1, -NO2, -CN, or an alkyl group optionally substd. once or twice with -Br, -Cl, or -F, or R3 and R4 combine with each other to form a group of formula IV or V; and A is a (non)substd. 4-20C arom. group] is reacted with 100-0.1 equivalent of a base in a solvent selected from among alcohols, polyalcohols, glycols, polyethers, amides of formula II (wherein R5 and R6 are each H or an alkyl or they combine with each other to form a group of formula VI, VII, or VIII), amines of formula III [wherein R7 is R5, a halogen, methyl, or methoxy-(un)substd. phenyl], etc., in an inert atomosphere at temperatures of -78 to 200°C.
