PURPOSE: To obtain the subject polymer useful for a film, a sheet or a molding, having high strength and high molecular weight by subjecting a polymer containing hydroxyl groups at the molecular ends with a prescribed hydroxyethyl carbamate to ethylene glycol removal reaction.
CONSTITUTION: A polymer containing hydroxyl groups at the molecular ends, such as a polyether polyol or a polyester polyol is reacted with a hydroxyethyl carbamate of formula I (A is a 1-12C bifunctional organic residue) [e.g. bis(2- hydroxyethyl)hexamethylene dicarbamate, etc.] obtained by reacting ethylene carbonate with an alkylenediamine in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. dibutyltin dilaurate, etc.) at 150°C under ≤1mmHg for 5 hours to give the objective polymer shown by formula II (B is a polymer residue having a hydroxyl group at the molecular end; (m) is an integer of 0-5; (n) is an integer of 2-100), having a high-molecular weight and useful for a film, a sheet, a molding, etc.
