To obtain a polyolefin having excellent processing characteristics, and a broad and double hump type or multi-peaked molecular weight distribution while cutting down a large expenditure regarding equipment by using a specific single catalyst complex alone.
When producing a polyolefin at a temp. of 20 to 350°C and under a pressure of 500-4,000 bars in the presence of a catalyst composition containing an organometallic compound selected from the group consisting of metallocenes, iron complexes, cobalt complexes, nickel complexes and palladium complexes all having catalytic activity, the organometallic compound has functional groups of a Lewis base at the position where the conformation of the groups can be carried out around the central metal atom in a molecule, and the reaction temperature is set in such a way that the obtained polyolefin has a double hump type or multicrested molecular weight distribution or a polydiapersity of ≥5.0 when measured with gel permeation chromatography. The Lewis base is preferably expressed by the formula [wherein M is titanium or the like; R1 to R5 are each H or the like; X1 to X4 are each fluorine or the like and; (o), (p), (q) and (r) are each 0-4].
