Abstract:

PURPOSE: To develop a method of producing a polyoxytetramethylene glycol diester from tetrahydrofuran which diester has a lighter hue and a narrower mol.wt. distribution than those of the conventional ones.

CONSTITUTION: Tetrahydrofuran(THF) is polymerized in the presence of a carboxylic anhydride and a montmorillonite-group mineral which has undergone ion exchange with a polyvalent cation. This method enables a polyoxytetramethylene glycol diester to be produced from THF in high yield which diester has a lighter hue and a narrower mol.wt. distribution than those of the conventional ones.
