Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a polypropylene, good in moldability and having a wide molecular weight distribution by using a polymerization catalyst comprising a specific organosilicon compound as one component. CONSTITUTION:Propylene is polymerized in the presence of a polymerization catalyst composed of (A) a solid catalyst component consisting essentially of Mg, Ti, a halogen and an electron donor, (B) an organometallic compound (preferably triethylaluminum, etc.) and (C) an organosilicon compound of the formula (R<1> is 6-10C alicyclic hydrocarbon; R<2> is 3-10C secondary or tertiary aliphatic or alicyclic hydrocarbon) (e.g. menthyloxycyclopentyldimethoxysilane). Furthermore, the component (A) is preferably obtained by bringing metallic magnesium into contact with a halogenated hydrocarbon and an alkoxy group- containing compound of the formula XnM(OR)m-n(X is H, halogen, etc.; M is F, C, etc.; R is 1-20C hydrocarbon; m is the valence of m and m>n>=0) and then bringing the resultant solid product into contact with an electron donative compound and a Ti compound.
