Abstract:
PURPOSE: A reaction between a polyvinyl alcohol resin and diketene is condcted in the presence of an organic acid in such an amount as it is adsorbed in the polyvinyl alcohol resin to produce the titled resin used for producing gels or photographic materials with no formation of white and water-insoluble by-products.
CONSTITUTION: In the presence of an organic acid, preferably acetic acid, in such an amount as it is adsorbed in the polyvinyl alcohol resin, for example, an organic acid or its solution is sprayed on a 80W320 mesh powder of polyvinyl alcohol resin to effect uniform adsorption and absorption, and heated up to 20W120°C, diketene is added to effect the reaction with the polyvinyl alcohol resin to produce the objective resin.
