Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the title material having a high strength and provided with nearly spherical pores of a relatively uniform size by firing a preform prepared by compression-molding a polytetrafluoroethylene powder obtained by suspension polymerization, stretching the preform below the m.p., contracting it and stretching it again. CONSTITUTION:A preform prepared by compression-molding a polytetrafluoroethylene powder obtained by suspension polymerization is fired above the m.p. to form a molding. This molding is stretched uniaxially or biaxially, contracted by at least 3%, and again stretched uniaxially or biaxially at least once below the m.p., of the polytetrafluoroethylene to produce the title material having a high void volume and excellent heat stability and mechanical strengths and provided with pores of a nearly spherical form and a substantially uniform pore size.
