PURPOSE: To obtain CaCO3 useful as a PVC filler by blowing CO2 into an aq. slurry of calcium hydroxide contg. an anionic organopolyphosphonate electrolyte and adding a polybasic acid thereto to bring the slurry into reaction with a fatty acid.
CONSTITUTION: The anionic organopolyphosphonate polyelectrolyte, for example, (2-hydroxyethylimino)bis(methylene)bisphosphonic acid, is added at 0.02 to 1.1 wt.%, more preferably 0.05 to 0.5 wt.% on the base of the sodium carbonate equiv. of the hydroxide to the aq. slurry (concn.: ≥5 wt.%) of the calcium hydroxide. Gaseous CO2 is introduced at 7 to 18°C, more preferably at 10 to 15°C, into this slurry liquid and the introduction is continued until the precipitation of CaCO3 is completed. About ≥0.3, more preferably 1 to 3% sodium carbonate precipitated with the polybasic acid, more preferably the phosphoric acid is then added to the slurry liquid by which the finely precipitated sodium carbonate having a specific surface area of ≥60m2/g, more preferably 75 to 85 m2/g is obtd. Further, the sodium carbonate is brought into reaction with the fatty acid deriv., such as stearate, by which the filler for PVC is obtd.
