Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable both the adoption of an easy and low-cost method such as a mixing step for dispersing an alumina-silica-based fiber and a solid lubricant in water and mixing both and further the production of a preform in which suppressing effects on reaction with a matrix are obtained by a nitride layer on the fiber surface and lubricating effects are surely provided by boron nitride.
SOLUTION: This method for producing a preform for a fiber-reinforced composite material containing a boron nitride powder sticking to an alumina-silica-based fiber having a nitride layer on the surface thereof comprises mixing the alumina-silica-based fiber having a composition represented by XAl2O3.(1-X)SiO2 (I≥X&par 4>0) and the boron nitride powder with water, forming the resultant mixture in a forming mold, providing a formed product of the alumina- silica-based fiber, having ≥4 vol.% volume fraction of the fiber, ≥1 vol.% volume fraction of the boron nitride powder, 5-40 vol.% sum total of the volume fraction of the alumina-silica- based fiber and the boron nitride powder and containing the boron nitride powder, having the hydrated surface and sticking to the fiber, heating the resultant formed product in ammonia gas or a mixed gas of the ammonia gas with a hydrocarbon gas at 1,350-1,450°C, forming the nitride layer on the surface of the alumina-silica-based fiber and converting the surface of the hydrated boron nitride powder into the boron nitride.
