Title:
PRODUCTION OF PRESS ARTICLE BY PRESS-FORMING FREGILE GRANULAR ALLOY POWDER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5893803
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
Powders from brittle metal alloys such as, for example, Fe-Al, Fe-Ti, Ti-Zr-Cr-Mn cannot be pressed into compacts without additives to facilitate pressing. Known additives entail various disadvantages, such as inadequate rupture strength, a tendency to decompose under the action of heat and insufficient storage capacity for gases and/or liquids in the compact. According to the invention, part sections of the surface of the powder particles consisting of the brittle metal alloy are coated with a metal which is softer by comparison, for example aluminium in a quantity from 1 to 15% by weight. This can be done by electrodeposition of the softer metal or by treating the soft metal powder/brittle metal alloy powder mixture in a mill. The finished compacts are intended for hydride storage systems in hydrogen drives of vehicles and for stationary storage systems.
