To provide a process for producing a high purity aromatic amine, while suppressing the accumulation of high boiling point impurities in a reactor, and the following deterioration of activity and working life of a catalyst; and a reactor for producing an aromatic amine by the production process.
In a reactor 1 comprising a first reactor 2 for hydrogenating an aromatic nitro compound with hydrogen by a gas/liquid contact reaction, a second reactor 13 for hydrogenating a non-reacted aromatic nitro compound taken out in the form of vapor from the first reactor 2 by reaction with a not reacted hydrogen gas in a gas phase, reaction liquid circulating paths (6, 7, 8) for taking out a part of a reaction liquid 17 in the first reactor 2 and returning the same to the inside of the first reactor 2, a distiller 10 disposed in the midway of the reaction liquid circulation paths (6, 7, 8), wherein a part of the reaction liquid 17 in the first reactor 2 is taken into the reaction liquid circulating paths (6, 7, 8) and separating high boiling impurities from the reaction liquid 17 through distillation.
