NEW MATERIAL:Titled compounds of formula I (wherein R is 4W12C alkyl, benzyl, phynethyl,; n is 1,2).
USE: Azo dye useful for synthetic fibers such as polyester, polyacrylonitrile and polyurethane. The compounds dye the synthetic fibers vivid greenish yellow with good fastness.
PREPARATION: An amine of formula II is diazotized and the product is copuled with 3-cyano-6-hydroxy-4-methylpyrid-2-one of formula III to obtain an azo cpd of formula IV which is then reacted with a sulfonate of formula V [wherein D is (substd.) phenyl] or a halide of formula VI (wherein Z is Cl, Br, I) in an inert solvent such as chlorobenzene and in the presence of a base (e.g. pyridine, sodium carbonate) at a temp. of 30W200°C to obtain the desired product in high yield and in high purity.
