Title:
PRODUCTION OF QUATERNARY AMMONIUM SALT OF BORON COMPLEX
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH03181487
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain the title high purity compound useful as catalyst, electrolytic substance, etc., with a small amount of by-products by reacting boric acid with hydroxyl group-containing compound and quaternary ammonium carbonate.

CONSTITUTION: Boric acid is reacted with hydroxyl group containing compound (e.g. ethylene glycol) and a quaternary ammonium carbonate (preferably methyltriethylammonium methyl carbonate) preferably at 50-130°C to give the objective compound. The amount of the hydroxyl group-containing compound used is preferably 1.9-10 in an equivalent ratio to boric acid. The amount of the quaternary ammonium carbonate used is preferably 0.7-1.5 in a mold ratio to boric acid. The reaction is preferably carried out under reduced pressure while introducing an inert gas in to the reaction system so as to remove by product CO2, by-product alcohol and by-product water.
