Abstract:
To provide a method for producing a quaternary ammonium salt useful as an electrolyte, a surfactant, a phase transfer catalyst, an antistatic agent for softeners or detergents, and so on, by which the crystals of the quaternary ammonium salt can efficiently and profitably be recovered from the aqueous solution of the quaternary ammonium salt.
This method for producing a quaternary ammonium salt comprises adding an organic solvent azeotropic with water to an aqueous solution containing the quaternary ammonium salt, heating the mixture to remove the water by the azeotropy and then recovering the quaternary ammonium salt as the solid substance from the obtained concentration solution.
