Title:
PRODUCTION OF RARE EARTH-IRON MAGNET MASTER ALLOY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH07207402
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide an inexpensive method for the production of a rare earth- iron alloy which does not require to heat and maintain at a temp. lower than the peritectic temp.

CONSTITUTION: When a master alloy for rare earth-iron magnet essentially comprising a crystalline phase produced by peritectic reaction is produced by melting and casting, the average cooling rate of the master alloy from the molten alloy temp. to the peritectic temp. is specified to ≥50°C/sec and the average cooling rate of the master alloy from the peritectic temp. to the temp. represented by (peritectic temp.-200°C) is specified to ≤0.5°C/min. A master alloy having almost an equal iron phase to a conventional alloy can be obtd. by casting the molten alloy in a specified casting mold and only by leaving the alloy to cool. Thereby, the production process is largely decreased and the reduction of the production cost is realized.
