Title:
PRODUCTION OF READILY WATER-SOLUBLE CHLOROPHYLL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2833740
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a readily water-soluble and nontoxic chlorophyll, readily soluble in water, resistant to light and utilizable for foods, medicines, etc., by heating and inactivating a living body capable of carrying out the photosynthesis under alkaline conditions, subsequently cooling and a allowing the living body to stand and extracting the chlorophyll from the resultant living body with a hydrophilic solvent.
SOLUTION: A living body capable of carrying out the photosynthesis such as Chlorella vulgaris E25 is cultured in a culture medium to collect the chlorella algal body by centrifugation at the same time of completing the logarithmic growth phase. Potassium carbonate, etc., are then added thereto to alkalinize the culture solution at about pH 8. The resultant culture solution is then heated at about 60°C to kill the chlorella algal body. The prepared dead algal body is sterilely preserved while keeping the culture solution at about pH 8 and subsequently heat-treated at 110°C for 3min to inactivate a chlorophyllase. The resultant algal body is cooled, allowed to stand and then subjected to extraction with a hydrophilic solvent such as ethyl alcohol to afford the objective readily water-soluble and nontoxic compound, resistant to light and useful as a colorant for foods, a deodorant for dentifrice, chewing guns, etc., a therapeutic agent for peptic ulcer, a contrast medium, etc., for roentgenography.
