Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce rosin which has pale color and good stability against oxidation and discoloration by heating, by disproportionating distilled rosin in the presence of a disproportionation metal catalyst.

CONSTITUTION: Rosin such as gum rosin, wood rosin or tall oil rosin is distilled at 200W300°C under a reduced pressure of 50mmHg or below. The distilled rosin is subjected to a disproportionation reaction in the presence of a disproportionation catalyst (e.g. palladium on carbon) at 150W300°C in an inert gas atmosphere.
