Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a titled aqueous emulsion of high long-term stability and dilution stability by using N-polyoxyalkylene fatty acid amide sulfuric acid ester salt as an emulsifier at the time of obtaining an emulsion in which water is of continuous phase and rosin material is of dispersion phase by a phase reversal emulsifying method.

CONSTITUTION: An aqueous soln. contg. 0.5W10wt% the emulsifier expressed by the formula is added under stirring to the dissolved rosin material composed of 0W 95wt% rosins and 5W100wt% rosin aduct, whereby the emulsion in which water is of dispersion phase and the rosin material is of continuous phase is prepd. Next, while this emulsion is being stirred vigorously, warm water is added thereto, whereby the phases of the emulsion are reversed so that the water becomes of continuous phase and the rosin material of dispersion phase. The resulted rosin material aqueous emulsion is usable advantageously as a superior sizing agent for paper making. For example, coconut oil fatty acid residual group. CONHCH2CH2O(CH2CH2O)9SO3 Na is used as the emulsifier of the formula.
