Abstract:
PURPOSE: To effectively produce a secondary alcohol from an olefin by a direct hydration reaction by a liquid phase method, while maintaining a reactional system being reduced in the energy consumption.
CONSTITUTION: A method for producing a secondary alcohol by the direct hydration reaction of an olefin by a liquid phase method using a heteropolyacid aqueous solution as a catalyst is characterized by employing an aqueous solution having a pH of ≤1.0 adjusted by the dissolution of a heteropolyacid as the heteropolyacid aqueous solution and by controlling the temperature of the reaction within a range from 140°C below 18O°C.
