Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce Si3N4 powder capable of providing sintered materials having excellent strength and density, by heat-treating a raw material powder prepared by blending SiO2 powder with carbon powder and specific Si3N4 powder in an atmosphere containing N2.
CONSTITUTION: 1pts.wt. SiO2 powder is blended with carbon powder and 0.05W1 pts.wt. Si3N4 powder with 5W50wt.% β-phase content to provide a raw material powder which is the dried and heat-treated in an atmosphere containing N2 to afford Si3N4 powder with 1W20wt.% β-phase content.
