PURPOSE: To obtain a solid catalyst component, suitable for the vapor polymerization of an olefin, good in shape, having a relatively large grain diameter and excellent in crush resistance in polymerization by using a melt mixture of an MG compound represented by specific compositional formula with an alcohol.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A mixture of an Mg compound with an alcohol in a melted state is sprayed to provide (B) a solid component without evaporating the alcohol in the component (A). The alcohol is then partially removed from the component (B) to afford (C) a solid component. The components (A) and (B) are represented by formula I (R is a 1-10C alkyl; (m) is 3.0-6.0) and the component (C) is represented by formula II [(n) is 0.4-2.8] and has no peak produced at a diffraction angle 2θ=7-8° and ≤1/2 the maximum peak even when present in an X-ray diffraction spectrum in spraying the component (A), providing the component (B), partially removing the alcohol from the component (B), affording the component (C), bringing a titanium compound containing a halogen and an electron donor into contact with the component (C) by using an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent having 90-180°C boiling point at 110-135°C, providing (D) a solid component, further bringing the resultant solid component into contact with the titanium compound and affording (E) a solid component which is the objective component.
