To provide a process for producing a solid fuel and a fuel gas which can produce large amts. of a medium-calorie gas, a high-calorie gas, and a light oil and can provide a good solid fuel.
A slurry prepared by mixing coal 11 with a liq. carbon-contg. material 12 is heat-decomposed at a temp. of 600°C or below within a heat decomposition reactor 15 to prepare a light oil 17, a high-calorie gas 16, and a heat decomposition residue. The heat decomposition residue is introduced into a partial oxidation/coking oven 18 and heat-carbonized in a medium-calorie gas atmosphere produced in a later step to obtain a carbonization gas and a carbonization residue. The carbonization residue is partially oxidized in an atmosphere of an oxygen-contg. gas 19 at a temp. of 1200°C or below to evolve a medium-calorie gas 20 and, at the same time, to obtain a solid fuel 21.
