Title:
PRODUCTION OF SPHERICAL FINE PARTICLE OF POLY@(3754/24)VINYL ACETATE)
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3204730
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce spherical fine poly(vinyl acetate) particles having particle diameters of 1-20μm by conducting the suspension polymerization of vinyl acetate monomer in an improved manner.
CONSTITUTION: Vinyl acetate monomer is suspension-polymerized in the presence of a catalyst and, as a dispersant, a solution of a poly(vinyl alcohol)-borate complex. Saponifying the obtained fine poly(vinyl acetate) particles (a) gives spherical fine poly(vinyl alcohol) particles. The particles (a) can be obtained as an almost monodisperse system by using as the dispersant a solution obtained by adding an adequate amount of a borate to an aqueous poly(vinyl alcohol) solution preferably having a poly(vinyl alcohol) concentration of 1-2%.
