PURPOSE: To obtain the title high-purity compound useful as a photoconductive material in electrophotographic sensitive substances, by dissolving an arylhydroxycyclobutenedione salt in a solvent and reacting the salt with an aniline derivative while dripping the above-mentioned solution into a specific solution containing the afore-mentioned aniline derivative.
CONSTITUTION: An arylhydroxybutenedione salt expressed by formula I [R1 and R2 are (substituted) alkyl, (substituted) phenyl or (substituted) benzyl; R3 and R4 are H, (substituted) alkyl, halogen, OH, carboxyl, (substituted) alkyl, phenyl-substituted carbonamide, etc. ; M+ is alkaline metallic ion, tetraalkylammonium ion, (substituted) pyridinium ion, etc.] is dissolved in a solvent and reaction is carried out while dripping the resultant solution into a reaction solvent consisting of an aliphatic alcohol containing an aniline derivative expressed by formula II (R5 and R6 are R1 and R2; R7 and R8 are R3 and R4) and an acidic substance of an inorganic or organic acid or containing the aliphatic alcohol to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula III.
