To obtain staple fibers having an excellent quality and useful for clothes, fiber-reinforced composite materials, etc., and enabling the large reduction in labors for maintaining devices by cutting a fiber bundle comprising continuous filaments with high pressure water jetted from a nozzle.
This method for producing staple fibers comprises cutting a fiber bundle, such as a cellulose-based fiber bundle or a polyamide-based fiber bundle, comprising continuous filaments by the use of high pressure water jetted from a nozzle or preferably by the use of the high pressure water and solid particles. The fiber bundle is preferably intermittently fed in the longitudinal direction, and the nozzle is preferably synchronously scanned in the direction orthogonal to the fiber bundle, while high pressure water is jetted from the nozzle to cut the fiber bundle.
