To produce the steel ingot having good casting surface by pouring molten metal with inserting the tip of a pouring member into a mold.
A mold 1 is formed with arranging a case 1b on a stool 1a. A ladle 5 is hung above the mold 1 by a hanging fitting 6, and a long nozzle 7 is mounted to a outlet port 5a at lower part as the tip is directed downward. The ladle 5 storing molten metal is moved above the mold 1 and descended, the tip of long nozzle 7 is inserted into the mold 1. Further, the tip of long nozzle 7 is arranged near the bottom part of mold 1. Next, a stopper 8 is ascended and the outlet port 5 is opened. Molten metal is flowed from the outlet port 5a into the long nozzle 7, and pouring of molten metal to the mold 1 is started. Molten metal is poured while maintaining the tip of long nozzle 7 in molten metal with relatively moving either of the ladle or mold 1 in the vertical direction. Thereby splash of molten metal in mold and entrapment of oxidation preventive agent in molten metal are suppressed.
