PURPOSE: To obtain a defectless steel ingot at an improved yield of a molten steel and decreased V segregation and microporosity by setting a pressurizing device in a riser part after the end of casting and pressurizing the riser by an inert gas until the solidification at the center is completed.
CONSTITUTION: A casting mold 2 and a riser 3 are set on a molding board 1 and at the same time, a prescribed amt. of a heat insulating material 4 is prepd. and is coated on the surface of a steel plate right after the end of charging. An inert gas feed port 9 via a valve 7, a pressure gauge 14 and a discharging port 10 via a regulating valve 8 are provided to a pressurizing device 5 and further a porous plug 6 is installed at the center in the inside thereof. The plug 6 is used to pressurize the molten steel in the riser. A heat insulating layer 13 is provided on the inside surface of the device for the purpose of preventing radiation of the radiating heat of the molten steel and protecting the device 5.
