PURPOSE: To obtain a sticky polymer by bringing ethylene, propylene, and optionally a diene into contact with a prepolymer (a) contg. a transition metal catalyst precursor, a hydrocarbylaluminum (halide) (b) as a cocatalyst, a halogen-contg. accelerator (c), and an inert particulate material (d) in a fluidized bed reaction system.
CONSTITUTION: An elastomer (EPM or EPDM) having a crystallinity of about 10% is obtd. by copolymerizing ethylene, propylene, and optionally at least one diene by bringing these monomers into contact with a prepolymer (a) contg. a transition metal catalyst precursor (with the proviso that the prepolymer is not sticky at the process temp.), a hydrocarbylaluminum (halide) (b) as a cocatalyst, optionally a halogen-contg. accelerator (c), and optionally an inert particulate material (d) having an average particle size of 0.01-150 μm (the particulate material being contained in or independent of the prepolymer) on a fluidized bed under polymn. conditions at a temp. not lower than the sticking temp. of the product resin.
